How To Earn Championship PointsIn September of 2003, it was announced to the club that a new form of recognition was underway. It was the consensus of the rules committee that this would be a fun way to recognize and to praise the effort put forth by our esteemed Llewellin Setters. Likewise, it would be a means of showing appreciation to the handler/owners for their dedication to their continued support of the club. Thus, a means of earning club status was underway. In order to be eligible to earn these championship points a dog must be enrolled with the Field Dog Stud Book. All the Owners and Handlers of dogs must be members of the NLGDC. Championship points must be accumulated by dog placement in NLGDC field trials, Open, Derby or Classic stakes. A dog must have at least one, 3 point first place win in an Open event to receive a Championship award. Only 5 points from Derby placements go toward the Championship. Dogs must demonstrate that he/she will back (honor) other dogs and must retrieve to hand (Retrieve is not used in Classic and AF stakes). Champion status shall be awarded when a dog accumulates a total of ten (10) points as follows: Open STR 20+ dogs: 3 pts for 1st, 2 pts for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd. 15-19 dogs: 2 pts for First, 1 point 2nd. 10-14 dogs: 1 point for 1st. Open Derby 14 + dogs: 3 pts for 1st, 2 pts for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd. 10-14 dogs: 2 pts for 1st, 1 point 2nd. 6-9 dogs: 1 point for 1st.
